Litigator Lars Brusven has joined Fasken as a partner in its litigation and dispute resolution group.

He makes the switch from Lax O'Sullivan Lisus Gottlieb LLP, where he was a counsel based in Toronto according to LinkedIn. He brings specialist experience in contract disputes, shareholder conflicts and oppression remedies claims, professional liability investigations, fraud proceedings, and class actions.

Brusven has acted as lead counsel in complex commercial arbitration related to insurance coverage, contract claims, and governance disputes. He has appeared before administrative tribunals and has represented clients at all levels of court in BC, Ontario, and the Federal Court.

He secured an urgent injunction order for a healthcare technology company against a former executive who stole trade secrets and intellectual property to launch a competing business, according to Fasken. He also acted for the State of Israel in a motion to stay a claim for lack of jurisdiction.

Brusven obtained a $2.5 million award for his client in an injust enrichment claim over a land sale dispute. He also helped an individual shareholder to push back against a partner and co-shareholder’s oppression application.

He was previously a Crown counsel at the Department of Justice and a litigation associate at Lenczner Slaght, according to LinkedIn.  He obtained a joint JD/MA in international affairs from the University of Ottawa and Carleton University; he also studied at Tel Aviv University.

“Our clients will greatly benefit from Lars’s ability to master complex case details while keeping their broader strategic and business objectives in focus,” said Jenny Francis, regional managing partner for British Columbia at Fasken, in a statement.

Brusven will be based in Vancouver.

Brusven’s appointment to Fasken’s litigation and dispute resolution partnership follows that of Kaleigh Milinazzo in December. Milinazzo concentrates on corporate disputes, white collar and regulatory defence matters. She was an associate at the firm before being promoted to partner.
