J. Bradley White has been named managing partner of Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt LLP’s Ottawa office.

He took the post on January 1, succeeding the recently retired Donna White.

“Having focused nationally as chair of our IP practice for many years, Brad is also a respected figure in the local business community. And with more than 20 years of experience as a top litigator, Brad is an ideal fit to lead our Ottawa office in the years to come,” said Doug Bryce, Osler’s national managing partner, in a statement.

J. Bradley White leads the firm’s patent litigation and patent/design prosecution practices. As an IP litigator, he has advised on patent rights enforcement and the coordination and management of litigation strategies across multiple jurisdictions.

He has tackled complex patent litigation, including pharmaceutical proceedings under PM(NOC) Regulations. He has served as lead counsel before the Federal Court, the Federal Court of Appeal and the Ontario Superior Court of Justice. He also acted as worldwide coordinating litigation and IP counsel before the US International Trade Commission.

White served as the lead outside counsel to Mylan Pharmaceuticals ULC and Teva Canada Limited in patent litigation and prosecution. He also acted for Samsung Bioepis in the first case related to biopharmaceutical ENBREL® (etanercept) brought in Canada under the Patented Medicines (Notice of Compliance) Regulations, and in patent litigation proceedings associated with HUMIRA® (adalimumab).

He is a registered patent agent who focuses on Canadian and foreign patent and industrial design prosecution, strategic IP portfolio reviews, patentability, patent infringement and validity opinions, worldwide patent portfolio management and enforcement advice. He is registered to practise before the USPTO.

J. Bradley White will retain his practice while leading Osler’s Ottawa office, working with Bryce.

Donna White stepped down as managing partner at the end of 2024, having served in the role from 2015 to 2024.
