Cox & Palmer has officially merged with Benson Buffett as of Monday and welcomed 12 lawyers to its roster.

The combined entity operates under the Cox & Palmer banner. Cox & Palmer managing partner Todd Stanley said that the merger bolstered the firm’s market position.

Former Benson Bennett managing director Katrina R. M. Gibbons will join Cox & Palmer as a partner. Her practice concentrates on family, corporate, and real estate law.

The Benson Buffett team has transitioned to Cox & Palmer’s office in Scotia Centre, St. John’s. Along with the lawyers, 2 articled clerks and 20 staff make the jump as well.

News of the merger was first publicized in December.

“This merger marks a significant milestone for both firms, and our larger platform positions us to better serve clients in St. John’s and the rest of the region,” Cox & Palmer CEO George Cooper said in a statement.

Cox & Palmer currently has 45 lawyers based in St. John’s.
